In a group project, we developed a post-apocalyptic game set in Dublin, where players collect essentials, jump on rats and zombies, and avoid acid pits to progress. I was the artist and designer, responsible for all background art, characters, collectibles, screens, and UI designs.

Level & Background Art

In six weeks, our team created three levels for Super Apocalypse. I designed all the background art in Photoshop, using multiple layers to achieve a cool parallax effect throughout the game.

Level 1: Fallen City

In our first level, we depict the apocalyptic scene above ground with collapsed buildings. The broken fences introduce the player to rats, zombies, and radioactive pits.

Level 2: Tallaght Subway

As the game progresses, the player ventures deeper underground, adding a touch of comedic relief for players familiar with Dublin as we set the apocalypse theme in Tallaght.

Level 3: Underground Caves

In the third level, the player discovers an underground cave filled with glowing fungi, zombies, and radioactive pits. The challenge lies in finding a way to escape...

MAIN PLAYER

The main player designs and animation frames were created in Photoshop. I designed a character wearing a gas mask, goggles, and a paper bag over their head to represent the toxic, post-apocalyptic environment of the game.

Game Assets - Enemies

ENEMIES

The game features two main enemies: zombies and rats, both outlined in red to signify danger. The player defeats them by jumping on top, though in level three, some zombies aren't defeated and are instead used as platforms.

Game Collectibles

Game collectables are the items the player has to collect through levels. The more items collected, the more coins you get! All the designs are based around an apocalypse theme. All items are animated with different frames.

Level-End Goals

Each level has a goal that ties into the game's theme. The first level ends with buying a subway ticket, leading to the station in level two. Level two finishes at a cave entrance, leading to level three. The third level ends with a portal—who knows what's next!
